What is meant by the term Ancillary Craft?
Simply put, the Ancillary Craft are small space vessels
which are assigned to Federation starships. These craft in most
cases have limited warp speed, weaponry, shields and life support.
Most vessels are used to carry people over limited distances,
or to move to and fro from a planet when the ship's transporters
are not functioning correctly.
The Ancillary craft have been used and equipped
to serve as an escape pod, when the main ship has been destroyed...
