Effective Masking Technique

Working on the back of the model now, mask off the area's between the Warp Pylon Wing, the Impulse Engine and the whole of the Aft Spine. Don't forget to do the bottom, before airbrushing this area with No. 141. Show's diagram where to paint No. 141
TIP! When you come to mask off the model, make sure that you use the right masking material. Use low tack!! masking tape like Betto brand tape. I used Scotch tape to mask off at the start, when the time came to peel off the tape, it removed the base paint and it went down to the bare plastic. I kid you not!
I was very lucky and got away with applying the base colour No.127 again.

 Painting the Sensor Array's

Masking off Voyager again this time we are painting all the Sensor Array's on both the primary and engineering hulls of the model, using colour No. 141. Use the masking technique if you have completely built the model as one piece unit.Shows a diagram where to paint all Sensor Arrays
If you paint and assemble as you go, as I did, then just air brush the parts as they are and make sure that you leave enough room around the edges of each piece to allow the glue to adhere properly.
TIP! Using a small precision screwdriver (Flathead) does this effectively.

Using a "00000" size paint brush the colours I used in painting the Sensor Arrays are... No. 12, No. 191, No. 144 mixed with No. 34 and No. 94. Click on the links to see where to paint the fine detail on the Shows Engineering Hull Sensor paint scheme.

TIP! Before painting the fine detail in the Fore Sensor Array, with No. 141 apply a small amount of paint onto the tip of a stiff brush. Using a newspaper or a paint palate, brush most of the paint off the tip of the brush.
Lightly and gently glide the brush across the detailed surface of the Sensor Array, highlighting all the raised detail. The technique is called drybrushing, it give's the detail a weathered look.
